This Ford COE Car Hauler Is Chevrolet Powered, Cheap, And Could Be Amazing!

COE, or Cab Over Engine, Trucks are bad asses. They are some of the coolest medium duty rigs you’ll find anywhere and we love them. Now I’m a Chevrolet guy, but these old flat nosed Fords were still awesome and since this one is Chevrolet powered it is kind of legal for me. It is sort of like a Fox body Mustang with an LS Swap. Only it can haul your Fox body with the LS Swap. I’m sure most people would want to swap a diesel in it, but it really depends on how far you are actually going to haul with it. I’d love to put one car on it and one behind it on an open trailer. To me that is the ultimate ramp truck hauler. What do you think?

This one appears to have been used for a circle track team as it has a tire rack up front. It also seems to have been built like a tank as some of the material used is HUGE stuff. That makes us think that this one will have no problem hauling your average race car and it also means most of it is structurally sound even if it has some surface rust on it. There does appear to be a small amount of rust under the cab, but nothing you’d see after making repairs, so it should be a relatively easy fix.

We would love to see a BANGshifter driving this thing around, so if one of you does decide to take the plunge on it we hope you’ll share some photos and details on what you are doing with it.

I picked this up awhile back and had plans to make it a shop hauler truck. As usual we have been too busy to drag it in the shop and work on it. I actually drove it when I got it. It’s been sitting and needs brake work. The engine and trans are small block Chevy with an automatic TH400 behind it I believe. Not sure exactly how big the engine is, haven’t run the numbers on it. Bone stock and ran good when parked. This looks to have been a dirt car hauler at some point with the tire rack but it could be used for anything from an advertisement piece to a weekend show car or vintage race car hauler. Put your gasser or dirt car on it and you’re the coolest rig pulling in the pits. Steering is good and the body has some rust that is easily repairable under the cab. Can tilt the cab forward for easy access the the engine. Clear title

Having ridden in both the Ford and GMC coe’s of that era…pass it on, your spine will thank you!

    I’m getting a whole lot of ideas…

But, I’m pretty sure “Stacy David” and his show GEARZ, are already in the process of picking this up.

COE’s are beer-goggle delights. Crap ride, a whole different set of cuss words to work on, and once it’s built, it’s still something only another set of beer goggles thinks they want. Of course, that sbc would make great mooring for a floating dock.

That weak sauce engine kills it. This truck probably came with a 361 or 391 FE truck engine that could suck the headlights out of a leaky squeaky sbc.

    They just killed it.

….aaand having driven multiple 361/391 Ford cattle trucks that only saw the taillights of 366 Chev’s…:)
My cubic dollars solution is a Cummins/auto swap, a frame stretch to accomodate a 14′ living quarters addition behind the cab, and the ramp deck behind that. Ample room for tool boxes, and you could probably fix the ride enough to like it. Leather seats, plush carpet, power windows, a nice color, and some skookum wheels, and you’re stylin’.
