The guys over at DIY AutoTune, otherwise known as the mad geniuses who unleashed the “MegaSquirt” do it yourself EFI craze on the world are back with a new piece to feed the need of the DIY guy out there who wants to tweak and tune his electronically controlled engine without spending a bundle on expensive components. The second generation of the company’s “Plug and Play” Engine Management System will retail for $799.00 and will allow users to convert distributor engines over to distributor-less ignition, control low and high impedance fuel injectors, can handle up to 44psi of boost with the addition of a MAP sensor, and a ton of other standard features you’d expect. All the various functions and features are linked below.
Currently, these pieces are only offered for import applications, but according to our pal Matt Cramer from DIY AutoTune, domestic applications are on the way in the next couple of months. We wanted to spill the beans first and let people know what they could be looking forward to. Also, we wanted to get your wheels turning and ask DIY AutoTune any questions you may have about their upcoming domestic applications if you are interested.
Below is the full press release from DIY AutoTune and a list of features you can expect from the PNP Gen II setup!
DIYAutoTune.com has just released their second generation of plug and play engine management systems, priced at only $799 each. Like the original first generation MSPNP, these directly replace the stock ECU and install without any wiring changes, and give the user full control over fuel, timing, and all other ECU functions. Based on the MegaSquirt-II firmware, the new design uses a faster processor than the original MSPNP for better drivability and more capabilities. The new version has a standard 4 bar MAP sensor for extreme turbo builds and can support both low and high impedance injectors. Other features include on board closed loop boost control, two step rev limiter, real time barometric correction, and closed loop idle speed control.
The new MSPNP was designed to meet the needs of a wider variety of cars than the first generation, and the initial release includes five separate models that can fit over a dozen models. Models covered include 1990 through 1995 Mazda Miatas, 1989 through 1994 Nissan 240SXs, 1991 through 1994 Sentra SE-R, AE86 Corollas, and 1987 through 1991 BMW 325i models. Many other MSPNPs are in development.
