Doug Herbert and Ray Evernham will Attempt 500 MPH at Bonneville

Doug Herbert, a longtime veteran of the IHRA and NHRA Top Fuel ranks,
has teamed up with Ray Evernham to build a wild streamliner and make an
attempt at a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats this
August.

Herbert, formerly sponsored by Snap-On tools in his Top Fuel Dragster,
has experienced some devastating losses over the course of the last
year and a half. Both of his sons were killed in a car accident in 2008
and his father Chet Herbert (who was actively working on this project
with Doug) passed recently, in April.

Herbert is moving forward with the project and there are build progress
photos on the project’s website to show how they are doing. The machine
itself looks like it will have the guts to make the 500 mph number the
team is looking for. Twin Viper V10 engines provide the go power and
Herbert will be doing the driving.
