For 15 years Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio has been hosting the “Hangover Nationals” on New Year’s day. This race goes off whether there is rain, sun, or snow! Nothing stops the Hangover Nationals and there’s good reason for it. This is an index drag race with a 20.14 second index! We’re not sure how racers are going to tweak their tune ups to gain a hundredth of a second over last year’s epic race, but we’re thinking that they’ll figure it out. This race has been going on for 15 years and there’s a couple of classes. You can race in the 2WD or 4WD/AWD class until the final round where the winner of 2WD takes on the winner of 4WD for the glory, trophy and $150.00 in winnings. The runner up receives $20.14 for their efforts.
If you want something fun to do on New Year’s day, choke down some aspirin and head to Dragway 42! The cool thing about this event is that it totally harks to an era that is rapidly dying where track operators were creative and thought of any way that they could to keep their facilities open to make a few bucks and keep people coming in the gate. More and more tracks are losing that creativity that was the hallmark of the sport. Ron Matcham and GM Joe Gambino are keeping that tradition of fun alive at Dragway 42 and we’re 100% behind it!
