eBay Find: A Dead Nuts Perfect Replica of Rosco P Coltrane’s 1977 Dodge Monaco Cruiser!

eBay Find: A Dead Nuts Perfect Replica of Rosco P Coltrane’s 1977 Dodge Monaco Cruiser!

Since we’re already talking police cars today, we figured that we better throw this awesome eBay find into the fray! Tipped off by BangShift reader Steve, we’ve fallen quickly in love with what has to be the most accurate recreation of Rosco P Coltrane’s 1977 Dodge Magnum police cruiser from the Dukes of Hazzard in the world. Who else would do this? It has to be, right?

The car is a 103,000  mile stocker with a 318/2bbl engine and appears to be in excellent cosmetic shape. All of the paint and exterior work was done by students at Ohio Technical College. The seller happens to be an ASE certified mechanic/body guy and he is also an instructor at the school so the kids used this car as their big project. It has been awarded at shows and according to the seller, draws a lot of attention. We sure think it rules and it would rule even harder wen we put a 440 in it and made it look like the big block was supposed to be there all along.

You don’t see too many late 1970s Monacos around in any form, let alone made to look like one of the more iconic police vehicles in history. They are pretty handsome cars in our opinion. The stacked headlights are kind of odd looking but the profile and rear of the car are really nicely styled. As we said above, it needs a 440 for motivation, but that is an easy fix.

These poor cars got mangled on the show. For as many General Lees that were killed in filming The Dukes of Hazzard, they killed about twice as many cop cars. Rosco was always crashing into trees, lakes, jumps, Boss Hogg, Enos, Cletus, or rolling over in some fashion. The General Lee always got away, bent or bruised as it may have been. The police cars? They got mangled. If one were to look at the finances of Hazzard county, it would be interesting to see how much of the yearly tax income was budgeted to buying police vehicles!
