Get a load of this monster! You are looking at a one of none 1978 Lincoln Mark V station wagon that was supposedly built as a promotional/exploratory vehicle by Lincoln in the late 1970s to gauge public interest in a Mark V station wagon. We’re not sure if this was the largest station wagon ever built (with respect to “factory stuff”) but it has to be close. This is an absolutely mammoth car. Before the station wagon back was added this car weighed over 5,200lbs. With all of that additional steel and glass? Who knows, 56-5700lbs? In a strange way we think it rules. It is almost like the station wagon rear accentuates the helicopter landing pad sized nose and hood. There’s a choked and wheezing late 1970s 460 under the hood providing the power and probably detonating itself to death in the process.
The seller claims that the car has a tick over 10,000 miles on it and has been owned by the same family for decades. The interior shots seam to bear that out as it looks factory fresh and brand new. It is equipped with a monster of a sun roof (bay window?) and all of the luxury stuff that was added as part of the “Cartier” edition, which this is based on. The tail lights jutting out from either side of the recessed tailgate are cool, the half-hearted attempt at keeping some sort of “continential kit” look on the tailgate is perfectly awkward 1970s styling, and the paint seems to be damned near perfect.
Can you imagine trying to parallel park this thing or trying to navigate a parking lot in it? You’d need to hire a harbor pilot to make sure you didn’t run it aground on another car or a building. We’d love to know the size of the turning radius as measured at the front corner of the car!

Holy Pro-Luxury!
Exactly what I was thinking. Bags and a much worked over 460 with a GV backing it..best roadtrip car ever.
demo derby winner for sure
WANT!
(A brace of turbos, a big cam, and some Kaase P51s would could make this one a sweet sleeper . . . .)
Man, I had a 76 Grand Marquis in High School, that thing was huge!!! I can’t imagine the teenager hijinks in the back of that thing
No need to waste time on silly Camaro-wagons. Here is something to replicate with some real substance!
Less than a wheezy 460, a wheezy 400!
That thing is awesome!
Mmmm . . . Not a problem.
(A brace of turbos, a big cam, some Engine Masters-winning CHIs, a 4.250″ stroker crank . . . would could make this one a sweet Cleveland-style sleeper . . . .)
I like it.
looks like a ranchero with a lincoln front end and a fiberglass top….Meh.
It makes my wagon look like a sport compact.
Idle hands are the devils workshop….
It’ll sleep 4 or screw 8.
The 8 track isn’t working.
i’ve been looking for a tow vehicle for this season, this would be perfect!
At last, a replacement station wagon for Sky King.
Just an FYI……it has a 400 engine not a 460.
