eBay Find: A Mint 1975 GMC Motorhome – Is The New BangShift Mobile Command Center – It Has An Air Raid Siren!

eBay Find: A Mint 1975 GMC Motorhome – Is The New BangShift Mobile Command Center – It Has An Air Raid Siren!

Chad and I have long joked that we need a BangShift mobile command center. We need a vehicle capable of serving as our live broadcast station, living quarters when Daphne and Kerri get pissed at us for buying junk, home away from home for announcing gigs, and also a rolling party wagon with kegs. The kegs are probably the most important part. But we digress. Chad breathlessly emailed me about this 1975 GMC motorhome that is currently for sale on eBay. As far as these things go, it is beyond mint. The vehicle appears to have been used as a police unit or emergency response vehicle or something to that effect as there is a light bar on the roof (sweet!), communication equipment (sweet!), and according to the seller an “air raid like” siren that is so loud the guy has been afraid to spool it all the way up (HELLA SWEET!).

This is one of the famously cool front wheel drive motorhomes that GMC built using same Olds 455 and TH425 chain drive transmission that could be found in the Toronado. We’ve never actually seen one in this clean of shape. Normally motorhomes from this era look like rolling meth labs or worse and you’d want to be wearing a HAZ-MAT suit to even get within 50-feet safely, but not in this case. The seller claims that the vehicle has been on a strict maintenance schedule since day one and it has been garage kept as well.

Since Chad wouldn’t let me buy the Doodlebug last week from Craigslist I think I am going to put the kabosh on his dream of owning this Transmode GMC masterpiece although it would look perfect with a huge BS slathered down the side and this baby may be just weird enough that the thieves who targeted Chad’s Suburban wouldn’t give it a second look.

But is does have that siren….

The sorry fact is, that in most areas unless you have a reason to have an emergency siren and those emergency lights, (a good reason being that your vehicle is for official use by the police or fire department only) they have to be disabled. Where I live they have to be physically removed.

That said, the barge doesn’t look very comfy inside does it? Suitable not so much for taking people to the night club, but certainly easy to wash out after hauling the vomiting drunks back home once more.

That thing started life as a gutted transmode and never was a Motor Home (no facillities) although the miles are great you guys need one fully equipped and they can still be found. The Birchaven and the Royale were the top line GMC Conversions, I used to buy and resell them years ago.

OMG…that thing is hideous! But oddly enough, y’all would look right at home 😀 You just need a tricked out Airstream.

I came so close to pulling the trigger on one of those – they drive amazingly well, and get decent gas mileage….

This the same chassis that designer Randy Grubbs built his latest creation out of, the DecoLiner which is in the new issue of Hot Rod.

So think of the possibilities with this thing when you two wack jobs start hacking away at it!

Think of the money you’d save on plane tickets, rental cars, and hotels.

10 gallons of black + 1 gallon of red = giant A-Team Van.

Yeah from the movie Stripes ! I love that movie! I remember seeing a horror movie with one of those too.

“This, gentlemen, is the Army’s newest secret weapon: the EM-50 Urban Assault vehicle.” Yeah, you need it!

It would make a great locksmith, electrician or plumbers service vehicule. It would surely get noticed/give great publicity, the sides need only white lights for working in the dark and the others could be replaced by amber lights. It would look great.
