So called “bodies in white” have always held a special spot in the hearts of hot rodders in all genres of racing. Why? Because they’re destined to be race cars! Both of the Detroit companies and the newly minted Italian company sell bodies in white along with their factory race cars so you can buy a “clean slate” Mustang, Challenger, or Camaro to build how you want. Some people buy them and then use a factory “cookbook” to built what is essentially the same thing as a Cobra Jet, COPO, or Drag Pack. Other people take them and go a completely different direction. I actually know a guy who has a Mustang body in white he is going to make into a bracket car (a super nice bracket car, but a bracket car nonetheless). There’s some merit to the idea if you have the money because you’ll be taking whatever it is you are building down to a shell anyway so why not start with a brandy new, rust free, factory fresh shell, right?
In this case, the car is a 2011 Mustang that has been updated with 2013 body work according to the seller. It has a front K-member from a GT500 in it and standard issue V6 shocks and struts all around. The rear axle is a Ford 8.8-incher and the seller does not know what the gear ratio is. The interesting thing about car may actually be what’s around it. The shop that the thing is sitting in is filled to the gills with Mustangs ranging from Boss 302s to what looks to be a full on road racing model. There are other Mustangs visible in the background of other photos as well. The seller is asking $9,200 for the car. Obviously with no VIN, there is no title. The intention for this thing has always been to be made into a racer of the owner’s choosing. It is interesting to us to see how much of the interior is included with the car like the dash, console, door panels, etc.
What do you think? Is it worth the money to pay for a car like this and start with something you know is nice, rust free, and ready for cutting or do you score something like a wreck and piece it back together, saving money on the initial buy in? Also, would you build yours to be a drag racer or a road racing/autocross killer? We’re debating that ourselves.

But I don’t have Ford racing dreams.
Look you get a plastic bumper too.
Did you see what else he has? Ford GT racing chassis!

The Challenger body in white is no longer available to the best of my knowledge, and hasn’t been for at least a year or two.
They were available in 2012. A friend of mine bought one. But I don’t know if they’re still available or not.
Does Mopar offer ANY of their cars in white ? I was under the impression that all car builders had to offer them as replacements for insurance purposes? Help!
