eBay Find: A Wild 1931 Chevy With A Wedge Chop, A Baby Hemi, One Door And A Flip Top

eBay Find: A Wild 1931 Chevy With A Wedge Chop, A Baby Hemi, One Door And A Flip Top

Maybe it was the gallons of margaritas I slugged down on vacation last week or some of the weird food I ate, but something has caused me to become transfixed on the car shown below. Part of me thinks that Ed Roth is looking down and smiling and other parts of me sees a Hot Wheels car come to life. There’s a ton of fab work in the frame, suspension, chop, and virtually every other element of the car as well. Now, that doesn’t mean that I want it. With no driver’s door and a flip top, exiting this thing after any sort of a crash would probably be akin to escaping from a prison…that was on fire and made of jagged steel. The placement of the 276ci DeSoto deep into the cowl of the body looks great and the transmission as footrest is also certainly interesting. I’m thinking things are going to get mighty warm in there once the trans gets some heat into it and that heat starts radiating up into the cockpit.

The radiator for the engine of the car is at the rear of the car tucked up under the body and behind the rear end housing. The seller claims that the engine runs cool and I’ve really got no reason to question that. Remote radiators are effective assuming that they’re setup properly. If comfort is a concern, fear not as you’ll be swaddled in a pair of seats that were destined for a skid steer loader. I thought they were garden tractor seats before being set right by the ad.

The seller has lots of information and photos in the ebay ad, so make sure you scroll down and click the link to get the full monte on this wild and weird 1931 Chevy. I’d love to oogle it at a car show and really get up close and personal with it, but I cannot see myself cruising around in it. I really dig the creative spirit and attitude of the car, but personally it is one of those cars I’d love to see someone else own a heck of a lot more than myself.

What say you?

Now that is what a rat rod ought to be.

I’d probably want a second door and seat belts, though, if I owned it.
