So our buddy Jon tipped us off to this eBay ad which exists to sell an adapter that allows the user to install a GM 12 bolt rear end over on their 10-bolt rear end. There used to be a day that when one wanted to achieve this look, they INSTALLED A FREAKING 12-BOLT REAR END. The only reason we can think someone would want to buy this thing is to fake out a potential buyer when they advertised their car as having a 12-bolt rear. That trickery will work fine until the owner puts some sticky tires on the car and barfs and axle right out of the housing on the street or on the strip. This thing makes your rear end stronger like you painting yourself green as the incredible hulk makes you stronger. It is a put on, through and through. Is it even more lame if the motivation is to impress the people at the local cruise night that your car has a 12 bolt? This is like cheating at racing….only way lamer.
Buying old cars gets more treacherous by the day!

eBay link: 10 bolt to 12 bolt cover adapter
Probably what is on that 1979 olds from a few posts back, haha!!!!
I was thinking the same thing Mike.
Cheating at posing?! Oh, the horror of the thought…
What’re next, fake time slips? Velcro-on slick simulators? Spray-on rubber remnants for behind the rear wheel openings? A 200 MPH speedometer with the needle pegged? Bug catcher carb scoops with operating butterflies? LS rocker covers with the Ford blue oval logo?
‘Kinda reminds me of the ’80’s kits to re-badge the pre-Fox body Mustangs with Mercedes-Benz grilles and emblems…
@ Midwest Mike… BUAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH
The question here to me is … who finds this shit!? Tell me what you queried on so I can avoid that! lmao.
And a 8,5 inch 10 bolt is just as strong as a 12 bolt..
This product will appeal to those folks who spell “Camaro” Camero.
I just did a keyword search on the sfbay craigslist for “Camaro” and “Camero”. At the moment, there are 210 private party Camaros and 47 Cameros for sale. Out of 257 total vehicles, fully 18% are prime customers to buy a 12 bolt adapter.
Prospects are lookin’ good!
This is like the guy who sticks a rolled up pair of socks down his pants to impress the ladies.
Reminds me of the Chrysler Hemi valve covers for small block Chevy. I actually saw them on on a hot rod at Jefferson Wi this fall. So my question of who would do this sort of thing was answered. A really drunk guy who was telling everone that his hemi was fake. So why bother to fake it if you are going to rat yourself out anyway?
I saw 3 of these jokes at this years Redneck Rumble in Lebanon, TN. I also saw 1 set of the old Ford THUNDERBIRD style valve covers on a sbc. Have you ever seen a HEMI or a T-BIRD want to be a chevy?
I do admit the cover is really stupid. Nobody should disrespect the 8.5″ axle. I have not touched mine in four years… 10.15 with a 1.36 sixty foot and several hundred passes.
Now, if they could figure out how to put a 9″ Ford cover on the back of a 10 bolt, THAT would be an impressive achievement in posing.
Ooh, ooh! What Matt said!
Or maybe a Dana 60 cover…
Only a Dana 60 cover is a lot easier to remove… 😀
Or just as wierd, you could go the other direction with the 10bolt cover on the 9″
