We normally limit ourselves to one eBay find per week, but this collection of replica vehicles from the Dukes of Hazzard is too good not to share. Outside of the typical General Lee, there’s two Cooter wreckers, JD “Boss” Hoggs’s Eldo convertible, a Daisy Jeep, Hughie Hogg’s 1979 VW Bug ‘vert, and even a replaic Sheriff badged Bentley that Roscoe drove in a single episode of the show called the 10 Million Dollar Sheriff. As a wise man once said, “There’s a fine line between hobby and mental illness.” We’re not saying that the owner of these cars is a mental case, but he’s got to be a unique individual, especially to hone in on stuff like the Hughie Hogg VW and the single episode Bentley. Those are weirdly specific cars.
The General Lee that is part of the collection is not the hairy chested beast you’d expect. Instead it is a 318 powered Charger (most of the cars on the show were 318s as well but we always like believing that there is a Hemi under the hood of every General). The Charger is an automatic with AC, a cd player, and a CB radio. It looks the part and frankly, it wouldn’t be hard to plug a 440 under the hood to begin roasting tires and jumping stuff.
We have no idea what the reserve on this collection is. We know that it is more than the current bid of $25,000. The seller could have really cahsed in a couple of years ago when the modern Dukes movie came out and hype around the brand was extremely high. Part of us thinks that he would be better off parting this thing out car by car. Then again, if the Bentley doesn’t go as a package deal, he’ll never sell it. Sure, somewhere right now there is a guy in his late 30s or early 40s that’s polishing his Dukes steel lunch box, practicing his Roscoe laugh and dreaming of re-enacting the episode with the Bentley, but that’s the only guy and you know he’s broke as all hell.
Out of the whole lot, we probably would take the Jeep first, given the chance. Clean the girly stuff off of it and you’d have a bitchin’ retro CJ to roll around in and with the V8 it is probably a hoot to drive. We don’t want the Beetle or either of the wreckers (shocking!). Having the General would be cool until some kid in a Mazda 3 made you look like you were tied to a stump at a stoplight grand prix.
Is it weird to have a collection of Dukes tribute vehicles? Hell no. Is it weird to have a collection of Dukes tribute vehicles that highlight singular episodes and bit characters? Yeah, a little. But that’s OK with us.
