This is another Scott Payton submission, part of our daily email loop that includes motorhomes or box trucks, and the occasional wrecker. Of course, there is nobody we know that would look better driving this thing than our own Brian Lohnes, although we are also certain that they wide bench seat will come in handy since he will have to sleep in it as well. Oh well, at least the boys will still love him, even if his wife won’t. This 1949 GMC is in excellent shape for it’s age. It runs and drives although a fuel pump is needed, and all the accessories work too. Yep, the winch and PTO both work as well. And it’s a 3 boom model just like the C10 wrecker that Brian already has. This one would be his first ’40’s truck, so it would not be a wasted purchase, we swear.
Equipped with a 216 cubic inch incline 6 with a 4 speed, we’re pretty sure “runs and drives good” is a relative term. Of course, we totally prefer the ride and drive of old stuff over new, so we’re good with that. It’s located in Illinois, and is only at $1,800 so far, with a couple days left to bid. So get on it! Or Brian might, and then he’d get divorced. That wouldn’t be good. Save Brian. Buy this.
wow – an “incline 6” is a really rare engine, I hear!!
I think they only made them for 1949 GMC wreckers. Never saw one though:)
Inclined to do what?
The mechanic in my home town had one of these. Only his said 25 hour towing. The boy wasn’t very bright. Or he was telling folks how long it’d be before he got to them.
He had it rigged with a siren. Don’t know why. He never drove over 30 mph. Even on country roads.
absolutely bitchin rig if i bought it the only thing i would change would be replace the ol “incline” six with something with a little more power.
With those air horns under the hood, probably good for 90mph or so….
I t sure would be a fun old truck to own…..I’d want two of ’em though…..one to keep “as is” (incline 6 & all) and one to modify!!
