A Guy In Canada Wants You To Buy His Bone Stock 1974 El Camino….For $120,000 – We’re Not Kidding

A Guy In Canada Wants You To Buy His Bone Stock 1974 El Camino….For $120,000 – We’re Not Kidding

Banghifter Chuck Bodkin sent us a link to an ad for a very nice and clean 1974 Chevy El Camino for sale on the Canadian version of Craigslist called Kijiji. Like American, Equatorian, and Parisian Craigslist, there are some people selling things for prices that seem like they may be a little steep. There are a smaller group of people selling things for prices that indicate they may have a problem with mind-bending substances. The seller of this 1974 Chevy El Camino is asking $120,000 for the car. We’re not sure if the prototype for the very first generation El Camino is actually worth $120,000 let alone this admittedly nice 1974 version. So why is the guy asking $120,000? Basically because it has swivel bucket seats. There were 13 1974 El Caminos built with the swivel buckets and while the ones in this vehicle appear to be in perfect shape, they aren’t screaming SIX FIGURES at us.

A quick look at eBay showed us that you can buy a set of the actual seats for $600 right now. We understand that adding them after the fact to a car that wasn’t factory equipped would only boost the value by about $15-20,000 rather than the $112,000 that the originals do, but you get the point. We’re obviously having some fun here and you may be thinking that the ad is some kind of a joke but we know that it isn’t because Chuck emailed the seller and got 100% confirmation that the guy really wanted $120,000 for the Elky.

One thing that we’ll come right out and say is that this could be the nicest stock 1974 El Camino in the world. The thing looks 100% rust free and the interior (as mentioned above) is surgically clean. The wimpy 1974 spec big block would certainly have been better than a totally wheezing small block option and the swivel buckets are a neat novelty, but unless there’s a large quantity of cocaine hidden in this thing, $120,000 is farcical.

Is it “auction syndrome”, someone who just loves their car so much that they are putting a price on it so it’ll never actually sell, or someone who actually thinks that there’s such a thing as a bone stock 1974 El Camino? You tell us. There are photos and a link to the ad below.

May be he wants all that cash because its actually a GMC Sprint, not a Chevy El Camino and its the hot “SP” version to boot. Thats a rare car but worth more like $12,000 not $120,000.

Maybe he’s hoping one the the rich guys who partake in Barrett Jackson or Mecum auctions and buy mediocre cars for 10 times what they’re worth will see the ad and scoop it up, thinking they scored the deal of the century.

Some old man drilled a bunch of holes along the top of the bed, that has to take $30,000 off the price alone.

I have had a total of 5 ElCamino’s, including a black 1974 with the tan interior with swivel bucket seats! I loved the swivel buckets. I used the swivel daily. That was a nice ElCamino. So was my 70, 77, 87 and 72. No mullet either! Just love a car with the potential to carry a little something if necessary.

He had it appraised in 2013. He’d better check – it might have gone up in value since then!
