Money No Object: 1975 Kenworth W900A – Taking It Easy In Retirement

The life of a semi tractor isn’t glorious. It drives hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of miles until the hardware just can’t take another mile, then…well, there’s a reason why you don’t see too many old rigs on the road or anywhere else for that matter. Semi tractors get worked to death…that is their entire reason for existing. Every once in a while you’ll see a restored or modified rig out and about, but after they are about ten years old you start to see the population thinning. I used to see Freightliner Century and Kenworth T2000 rigs everywhere. Now, I get excited when I see one because it means that I’m not looking at yet another Freightliner Cascadia. I find myself paying attention to semi tractors mainly because of the connection I had to the trucks through my father, but also because I’m certain that every time Lohnes sees an old classic that fits his bill, he loses sleep for two days.

So, with that, let’s look at this 1975 Kenworth, shall we? A three-year restoration job, this W900A is running a 1979 Cummins 400 Big Cam with a 13-speed box attached, and has been worked over front to back, inside and out. The hood is all new, as is the wiring, the air lines, the tires, the wheels, the interior and much, much more. The dark green sets off nicely with the chrome and diamond plating, and the fenders over the rear axles are nicely done. The inside looks more-or-less stock but refurbished nicely, the engine is clean enough to eat off of, and if this truck has done any hauling since it’s restoration, it hasn’t broken a sweat doing it. This is the kind of rig that is towing around a small flatbed for small-town parades at this point…would you work something this nice?

Quick, someone look. Is Lohnes panting yet?
