Money No Object: 2018 Ford Super Duty – An Ex-SEMA Truck We’d Actually Own!

Money No Object: 2018 Ford Super Duty – An Ex-SEMA Truck We’d Actually Own!

The time is drawing near! This is the season where the three of us pack up a suitcase, make our way to the airport and meet up in Las Vegas for a week of automotive overload. SEMA is just a few days away and we’re spooling up for the action. There’s going to be all sorts of things to check out this year, but for today I wanted to see just what was on the electronic auction block of eBay. Just searching “SEMA” while hunting for cars and trucks brings up plenty of modified vehicles that all got their week in the limelight, and most of these are being sold to either recoup costs or to help fund the next build. Most of the rides that do hit eBay are the kind that we’re pretty much on the fence on…usually there’s something we’d have to change one way or another. But every now and then, we find something we’d leave perfectly alone. It’s not common, but it does happen.

Full honesty: I’m about sick of the armada of lifted trucks that fills up a major section of SEMA. Most of them are overdone mall-crawlers that wouldn’t see a spec of dirt in their lifetimes. But this 2018 Ford Super Duty looks ready to play in the dirt first, and was only just cleaned up and detailed for SEMA. Where do we start? There’s the Superlift four-link lift kit that has long-travel airbags and King coilover shocks and custom Deaver leaf spring packs. There’s the Maryland Diesel Performance 64mm turbocharger kit, the Diamond Eye five-inch exhaust, and the tuning that brings it all together. There’s the Raceline wheels and the Toyo tires that look rather useful for a show truck.

And then there’s the other stuff: the two separate sound systems, one in the cab and the other in the bed cap. There’s the lighting setup that has whips, rock lights, work lights, a dome light for the bed cap, and so on. There’s the Icom radios, the Tepui hard shell tent, the Maxtrax recovery tracks, a refrigerator, the 3-ton high-lift floor jack, tools, recovery kits, an awning, and much more. You could overland this thing or chase a Baja racer with it. Outside of the sound systems, there’s purpose to everything this truck has. We can dig that.
