eBay Find: A 1973 Dodge Coronet Super Bee Sedan

eBay Find: A 1973 Dodge Coronet Super Bee Sedan

Opinions are sure to vary wildly on this never actually built Mopar, but we totally dig it and the thought process behind the theme and execution of the car. There’s still a decent amount of full-size iron out there for tons shorter money than “popular” muscle car styles.

A BangShift member named Andy created the car and is now selling it on eBay as some circumstances have arisen that force the sale. We think it’s pretty neat and frankly it would be a hoot to stick a mean 440 in and cruise the family around town with.

We’re sure it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but the logic behind the car is interesting and makes some really good sense to us.

Here’s what Andy said about the car in his own words.

As a long-time reader and very infrequent poster, I was eventually planning on bouncing this car off of you once I finished it.  Unfortunately, I won’t be finishing it, so now it’s on eBay in kit form. I have other similar projects, and I’d planned on making a book about “alternative muscle cars” for the kids growing up in the post-muscle era.  We all know that Mopar B- and E-bodies, GM A-bodies, early Torinos, and all the other cool stuff is just getting farther and farther out of reach for the young guys, and becoming the playground of retirees and wealthy yuppie brats.  No wonder they’re all turning to the imports. Point is, there needs to be a plan to build respectable-looking cars from solid $200-$2000 undesireables.  Choosing the right body and dressing it up appropriately can make anything look decent if it’s packaged right.  Loose the vinyl top and side moldings, bolt in some decent power, paint it, and go.  Solid cars of this era can be found that just don’t need the big work like cutting out floors, welding on full quarters, changing subframes, and other nightmares that are commonly needed on most truly affordable early musclecars. This Coronet, for instance, reached the point it is now for less money that it takes to buy a stripped shell of a first-gen Camaro with deep rot and a shakey title. The wave of the future?  Maybe not, but maybe it should be.
