eBay Find: A Historic Chopped Willys Gasser

eBay Find: A Historic Chopped Willys Gasser

If there’s one thing cooler than a Willys gasser, it’s a chopped roof Willys Gasser! We got tipped off to the sale of the Shinholster and Lehman 1941 Willys, which is currently for sale on eBay. The car was a strong runner in the Southeast and managed a class win at the 1970 Gatornationals and was then featured in several major magazines. With the bodacious roof chop, the car looks really agressive and the fact that it is unrestored makes it all the more special.

Currently the car has a weak-suck 327 in it (topped with a tunnel ram and a 2bbl?!) but when it was a C/GS terror, power came from a 6-71 blown, Hilborn injected, 283 backed by a Torqueflite transmission. The current engine was put into the car so that it could be driven, it is obviously not the original race motor.

The interior, paint, rear end, wheelie bars, fiberglass nose, and suspension are all present and accounted for. The interior is BOSS and is both tasteful and a great reminder that these gassers were really hot rods turned race cars. There is no such attention to interior detail in full-on drag cars these days. This Willys was both a looker and a goer!

The car doesn’t even have a roll bar in it, which is funny, but back in the day, safety regs did not demand it. Unfortunately, if you wanted to do anything more than show it off, one would need to be added. Anyone have $79,900 laying around?

Thanks to Darr Hawthorne from DragRacingOnline.com for the tip!
