eBay Find: A Lunatic Fringe, Street-Legal, 9-second Fiat

eBay Find: A Lunatic Fringe, Street-Legal, 9-second Fiat

This is awesome. A hell-raising 1937 Fiat that runs nines at the strip, has a killer little 327ci small block in it backed by a G-Force transmission, and is street legal. In a move that seems to defy the laws of physics, two adults actually fit inside as well. It would kick your ass, but how about this baby for a mount on Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week 2011. The car is very well constructed, and would certainly be a traffic stopping side show on any cruise in your city or town.

The seller is looking for $50,000, which is a lot these days, but could you really build this car for less than that? We’re saying hell no. The whole thing is custom built from the chromemoly tube chassis, to the hand fabricated rear end from Undercover Race Cars. There are Mark Williams and Aerospace Components all over this thing, including a custom hand brake that can actuate just the front brakes for burnouts and tomfoolery!

As we said, the engine is a 327 based plant. It has been punched .030, filled with a 1968 large journal crank, 11:1 pistons, a Comp roller with Comp lifters, springs, and titanium retainers. Shaft rockers are present and came from T&D. Those are bolted to Brodix Track-1 heads and those heads are topped by a Hilborn injection setup. What a cool combo!

The seller lists the car’s best run @ 9.72 on a quarter mile strip at almost 140mph. If you remember the car, it was featured in Car Craft back in 2005. It has been driven 624 miles since being completed. Hell, you could just about double that on Drag Week. Do it and earn legend status. Imagine living in this beast for a week!

Our inner Rat Fink is screaming, “DO WANT!”
