eBay Find: A Mechanically Pornographic 1966 Econoline Truck

eBay Find: A Mechanically Pornographic 1966 Econoline Truck

Oh this 1966 Ford Econoline is 100% BangShift approved! It has a bruised up nose, a spartan interior, and a rear mounted 302 V8 that spins an automatic transmission which is hooked to a chain drive to turn the rear axle. The best part is that the drivetrain is mounted up on pedestal style mounts, exposing much of the engine above the sides of the bed.

We’ve seen rear engine V8 Econoline truck before, but this one is the coolest. The zoomie pipes with tractor exhaust flappers on them, manual steering, manual brakes, the odd sepia-like paint color, and the general vibe of this truck really spins our crank.

The engine is a 302 with a 4-bbl carb on top. The transmission is a trusty Ford AOD jobbie and the chain? We don’t have the specs on that, nor do we know how well it will hold up. We’re guessing that the worst thing to do (with respect to the chain drive) would be matting the gas from a stand still or trying to to brake stands or whatever you locally call stationary burnouts without the aid of a line loc.

It probably handles awful and exiting the highway would not be an exercise involving high lateral g-forces, but who really gives a hoot? In our home state of Massachusetts, driving this contraption would probably get you thrown in a maximum security prison, but you boys and girls in the Midwest with your lack of big brother oversight could roll this baby all say long.

Mechanical porn? You better believe it!
