eBay Find: A Raggedly Cool 1941 Dodge COE Truck

eBay Find: A Raggedly Cool 1941 Dodge COE Truck

We were tipped off to the eBay auction of this ratty, and totally awesome 1941 Dodge COE truck by BangShift.com reader Phil Cooper. The world is totally batty (and had been for more than a couple years) for these old cab-over-engine trucks for use as car haulers. We’d go down that road with this one, but instead of doing the normal low-bed treatment on it, we’d add a roll-off tow truck style bed after adding a foot or three to the frame length.

The truck is listed as a 1948 model, but a couple of guys who commented on the ad are either collectors of these trucks or just enthusiasts and corrected the seller. It is actually a 1941 truck, which places it right at the beginning of the industrial war effort ramp up for WWII. Undoubtedly, this is a rare piece. We’ve never seen another one and shortly after this truck would have been built, the only things coming out of Detroit factories were tanks, planes, shells, and guns.

The truck is a major project, but is does have the original motor and trans intact. Also, all the impossible to find sheet metal is present and account for, although because of a fire, there is some warpage in a panel or two. Considering you’d probably spend your entire life looking for another one to replace it with, a warped panel is far better than none at all.

Paint it black, hand letter the door with an imaginary towing company and load your hot rod on the back for instant fun!

Phil, thanks for the tip!
