Yeah, yeah, we know. There are more modern, efficient, better working intake manifolds for the classic Chrysler Hemi than the old Edelbrock “Rat Roaster” but few have the reputation and history that those babies do. In their day, these were the pieces found atop the hottest Super Stockers and some of the early Pro Stocks as well. They were available for sale through Chrysler’s racing wing, “Direct Connection”.
As the seller notes, most of the time you’ll see these for sale with either a single four barrell carb on top or two in-line four barrells. As you can see, the top is removable and they could be swapped to fit the application. We’re guessing that this cross ram piece was intended for the hard core racer. The good news for the buyer is that this baby is unmolested, having never been mounted or run on a car. The carbs have seen some use according to the ad.
Going back to our original words, there are obviously a large pile of modern intakes that’ll beat the pants of the Rat Roaster, there are hundreds of stories of guys who tried and failed to get their street motors happy with multiple carbs and a ‘Roaster, but having said that, nothing will get guys more wound up at the local cruise night or at grudge night at your home strip than seeing this tub of an intake manifold bolted to the top of your Hemi!
Bidding was already at a grand when we wrote this. Bidding ends on today!
