eBay Find: Jungle Jim Liberman’s Documented 1975 Monza Funny Car

eBay Find: Jungle Jim Liberman’s Documented 1975 Monza Funny Car

Every year it seems that there is a “new” Jungle Jim Liberman Funn Car out and about with an owner claiming it to have been owned and raced by the legend himself back in the day. Most times the details are fuzzy and the documentation is non-existent. Not this time Bunky! This car is documented and has history even more extensive than that of “Jungle Jim” alone!

The chassis was originally built by Rollie Lindblad, a noted chassis builder of the era who worked out of Northbridge, Massachusetts. Liberman was based in his home Pennsylvania by this time in his career, so it made sense for him to work with an eastern car builder rather than farm the work out to the west coast.

Liberman ran the car for a short period of time and then it passed through a few owners you may have heard of before. The first to buy it was Bruce Larson, a pioneering flopper racer who would go on to become the NHRA Funny Car champ in 1989. Larson then sold the car to Chuck Etchells. Etchells named the car Future Force and ran it for several years, putting himself on the map and making the way for his professional NHRA funny car racing career.

The seller has letters from Lindblad the chassis builder, as well as the bill of sale from Liberman to Bruce Larson to document the car. Liberman died in 1977, so this was one of the last cars he commissioned and raced.

Hit the link below to learn more, but this is one heck of a neat piece and would be the centerpiece of any collection of drag cars or even better, a cackler so it could at least breath fire again. Chopping up the original chassis to make it a racer again doesn’t seem like all that great an idea to us!

Thanks for the tip Jon Wall!
