EFI to NASCAR? Looks Like It

You had to know it was coming at some point, but it looks now, more so than ever, that electronic fuel injection will make its way into the ranks of NASCAR. Everything that we have researched seems to indicate that carbs will be bolted to motors through the 2010 season,  but it could be ‘lectronics after that.

So the natural question comes. Why? We’re not asking in an angry, betrayed, sense like some fans seem to be doing, but really in a purely curious sense. Will this improve competiton? The fan experience? Safety? Manufacturer involvement?

The good news is that we have answers to none of those questions. We’re not sure that this will entice more money from vehicle manufacturers, as they have been working on fuel injection systems for decades. Perhaps EFI suppliers may be interested in getting involved as they can develop parts for the harsh conditions that Stock Car racing presents on a weekly basis.

Our take? We honestly don’t care that much. They’ll still have non-production motors in non-production cars, sharing only the shape of the faux headlight stickers with the real street driven machinery.

Here’s a few different takes on this developing story:
