This story had us shaking our heads. A 71-year old Ohio man was busted by the coppers and charged with aiding and abetting the operation of an automobile chop shop, and interstate transportation of stolen property. Over the last year this old jerk stole 14 Corvettes from various places. He is currently being held by the US Marshalls because he already has federal auto theft convictions in his past.
Daniel C. Ott Sr. is facing up to 25 years in the clink for his latest spree of car thefts. To his credit he admitted everything and seemed to be bragging to police when he told them that over the course of his career, he had stolen more than 100 Corvettes. That’s just Corvettes mind you, he’s probably got ten times that number of Camrys to his name.
Ott went to prison in 1980 after being convicted by federal authorities for his part in a car theft ring that spanned several states. Amazingly, this guy stole an FBI pickup truck during that time frame. He went back into the cooler in the late 1990s for, you guessed it, auto theft.
If Ott is convicted, it’s basically a life sentence, or at least Corvette owners hope that it is. Looking at his track record, if this dude can still breathe when he gets out, he’ll make at least one more attempt at lifting a Corvette from an unsuspecting owner.
Lock him up and throw away the key fob.
