An Australian teenager (not the driver shown) tasted both victory and defeat recently after he earned his license in the morning and had his car impounded before dark. The kid was caught doing burnouts on local city streets.
There are tough anti-hoon (hoon = wild driver) laws in Australia that hit people who are caught violating them pretty hard. This story on Australia’s The Advertiser site reports that the driver had his car impounded for 48 hours, will have to pay $400 Australian to get it back, and will also have to face a judge.
Something tells us that the meeting with the judge will not end with a pat on the back and a fatherly, “Don’t do that again, kid.” The way some of these laws are around the globe, the kid may be breaking rocks in the outback soon. According to the media reports, this may be some type of record for the shortest time someone has had a license and then been busted, “hooning.”
