We have been systematically taking you around the 2015 Grand National Roadster show in fine style for the last several days and we’re not letting up be any stretch. In fact, we’re going to twist this sucker a little harder! Anyway, in these photos you’ll see lots of the cars you expect to find at the show and at least one, and closer to five that you wouldn’t. We’re not going to give away the secret so you’ll have to find it but it was a car we’ve wanted to see in person for basically our entire lives…and there it was.
Part of the charm of this show (at least for us) was the fairgrounds itself. We had been to the drag strip at Pomona but never inside the actual buildings at the fairgrounds and they are really cool. Many of them were built as Works Projects Administration jobs during the great depression and they have held up great ever since. This show has been going on for more than 60 years now and it had a remarkable feeling to it. You are able to revel in the past with these old cars that have lived in California their whole lives (often with the same owners) and yet we are able to see the bleeding edge of skill and design with the AMBR contestants. There are few shows that give you both sides of that coin in the way that this one does.
We have said it before and we will likely say it again this week but for anyone who has never been to this event, put it HIGH on your list. Like damned close to the top. Like Bonneville, once you see it the first time you’ll never want to miss it again.
