As I’m typing this, the Woodward Dream Cruise is actually going on. The third Saturday of August is the official day of the cruise, but cars have been rolling up and down Woodward Avenue for at least a week or so prior to the event, so it wasn’t a big shock when I stepped out onto the sidewalk and proceeded to capture cars in photographs like tweens capture Pokemons with their smartphones. The cars came rolling down from the top of The Loop and cruised right on past where I was standing (just before the Amtrak station) with such regularity that you’d swear that the Dream Cruise was a week-long festival celebrating the sounds of V8 rumble, tire chirps and period correct music. We could have done without the music, but we relished in the sound every time someone opened up the secondaries or punished the tires. Hey, we gearheads love to give back to the community. That’s why we help fix city streets by repaving them with burnt rubber!
