Best of BangShift 2010: Jason Calderon Climbs the Ladder in a Beautiful Chevy II

Best of BangShift 2010: Jason Calderon Climbs the Ladder in a Beautiful Chevy II

One of the great benefits of drag racing in New England is the fall weather. Cool air and moderate temperatures create situations where motors can be set on kill and the track hooks like it is coated in velcro. Racer Jason Calderon found out how true those words can be at a recent event at New England Dragway. One of the track’s photographers, Jay Spinella, caught an awesome sequence of Calderon’s Chevy II headed into low Earth orbit.

Jay shoots for Action Racing Photos (ActionRacingPhotos.com), the photography outfit owned by his buddy (and ours) Denis LeBlanc. Denis and Jay were the two guys who we covered the snowmobile ice drags in Vermont with last winter. They rule.

You may recognize Jason’s kick ass Chevy. The car was invited to the 2007 Hot Rod Magazine Pump Gas Drags and ran well at the event. Jason is a Rhode Island guy and we were psyched that his ultra-clean car was chosen for the competition.

He’s stepped on the power since then as the car was not doing stuff like this back in 2007! We think the front clip may have been slightly, um, adjusted when the car came down.

Scroll down for all of Jay’s great shots!
