Justin Oney Brings Us Dash Mania From The 2014 Grand National Roadster Show. It’s Custom Dashes Galore!

(Text and Photos by Justin Oney) Justin Oney is a weirdo. Mostly because he hangs out with us, but also because he sees things most people don’t. Like us, he gets fixated on some particular element of a car, and subsequently takes super cool artistic photos that we think are so cool I actually have some printed and in my house. And since we had the Grand National Roadster Show covered like Bieber at a street race, Justin decided he was going to focus his camera solely on custom dashes at the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show. I’ll admit, there are a few ultra cool engine shots in the gallery as well, but he self titled this bad boy “Dash Mania” so I’m rolling with it.

Here’s what Justin had to say.

GNRS 2014 Dash Mania

SoCal weather treated us right for 4 days leading up to the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show. I spent the first few days at Disneyland, with the wife and friends, then wandered down to Venice beach to see how a different portion of society lives. (Admittedly Justin is totally normal compared to anyone on Venice Beach.- Chad)

With all of the car photos coming out of this show and blowing up Social Media and Websites I thought I’d take a different approach and show another side of the show.  I shot nothing but dashes, with a few sprinklings of motors and cool little details I saw.  I thought I lost my phone early in this excursion, and my photog mojo took a hit and enthusiasm dwindled, the phone was located and I managed to squeak out a half dozen shots that I really dig. I hope you dig them too.

Enjoy the photos from the dash cam view.

How many times did Justin get yelled at by nervous car owners by leaning over the ropes and getting dangerously close to the paint jobs in order to get these shots?

Justin, I am always looking at dashes and interiors looking for ideas and that show has some great work.

      I have a new favorite lens…..18-200.
The only photo I didn’t shoot with that lens is the Hot Rod sign.

I’m an admitted dash whore. I figure the thing you are going to be looking at the most when driving should look good.

Really enjoyed the pics, it’s nice to zero-in on something else than just the exterior of the cars,

I’m sure the judges look closely @ these details. As someone else said “make it look good, if your driving it, you will appreciate it. When building a car, allot of thought should go into the dash panel.

Justin: Some cool shots, but would be much more helpful if pics were captioned with some info on what vehicle the dash was in, as well as what vehicle the cluster originated from:)

    Cheers!
