(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Wow, what better way to cap off a great weekend than to accidentally find a cruise-in on your way home. On our return trip from the May ECTA Ohio Mile land-speed event we stopped for dinner in Northern Kentucky. Afterwards we made a wrong turn that we seem to repeat nearly every time we pass through there and happened upon a well-represented cruise at Fillmore’s dairy hut in Florence. We immediately pulled over as if we’d blown a tire and jumped out to check things out. Cars were still coming in and passing through the whole time we were there. Lots of C2 vettes, muscle cars, and neat old iron. Our favs:
Fender-skirted ’56 Chevy
Blue, 5-window Chevy 3100 Pickup (check the reflection for three images of a ’57)
Dark red Challenger with just the right stance
A cherry ’34 Ford 5-window
OHC-6 Pontiac Firebird. Yeah.
Long, low, and black Marlin that was neat as a pin.
A subtle Comet with great details, big meats, and one cool-looking engine.
It seems there is a cruise night 5 days a week throughout the Summer at various sites in NKY. Check out ‘Cruisin with DJ Ray’ on Facebook for details on locations and hours.
Enjoy.
