Cruise Gallery: The Fort Oglethorpe Cruise In – Georgia

(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – On his way home from Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip’s first Heads Up race of the season, Tommy Lee Byrd stopped by the Fort Oglethorpe (Georgia) Cruise In, which has a new home this year. It now resides at the Gateway Antique Mall (which is technically in Ringgold, GA), and let’s just say it was a good move, because the turnout was massive!

Hundreds of cars, trucks and motorcycles swarmed the area, and there were even a few swap meet vendors on hand. Although an avid swap meet scrounger, TLB left empty handed. The event was laid back, just like a cruise in should be, and combing through the rows of vehicles provided plenty of enjoyment. Some of our favorites included a pro touring-style ’57 Chevy convertible, a stock-appearing ’67 Chevelle with an LS-swap and a daily-driven Studebaker pickup. Judging by the crazy turnout, this is a must-go cruise in for the area and it’s held on the third Saturday of the month, from March to October.
