(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The street rod nationals have been held in Louisville for at least 15 years now and I’ve been attending this event since the late 90s and most of them have been with my boys along for the gearhead overload. What I’ve compiled here is a sampling of my favorite photos taken from the last ten or so events. These aren’t necessarily the best cars in attendance nor the most-popular, but they do represent a good diversity of what attends what is likely the largest rod run in the world. Most cars are driven from all over the USA and many are shipped from overseas for their owners to enjoy the ride and adventure of rolling some older automobile across the highways and byways of our beautiful country.
Some of the rides are well-known, but most are simply the pride and joy of their owners being used as they should be – driven. If you’ve never attended one of these it should be added to your bucket list because there is so much to take in it can’t possibly be done in the few days of the event. There are seminars, concerts, manufacturers up the whazoo showing off their wares and their handiwork, an awesome swap meet (a personal favorite), some great food, easy access to air conditioning and water fountains (VERY important as this is usually the first weekend in August), and generally over TEN THOUSAND cars and trucks parked and roaming around not only the Kentucky Exposition Center, but all over Louisville. A serious feast for the eyes and ears await.
