(Photos by Daron Gray) – Recently, the grounds of Greer Dragway in Greer, South Carolina served as the backdrop for one hell of a nostalgia drag race featuring 12 of the baddest ass period gassers in the world. The group with cars like Quain Stott’s Executioner, Greg Porter’s Night Stalker, and the awesome Bone Shaker Ford that is powered by a Boss 429, had the place packed with people and all day. These are period correct cars in so much as they use beam axles with leaf springs, basic roll bars, and real deal four speed transmission, not just nostalgia bodies draped over modern tube chassis cars with automatic transmissions or clutchless jobs. Also in attendance was Joe Boggs and his vintage top fuel car that won the AHRA world finals in the middle 1960s running a small block on a healthy load of nitro and hydrazine. He’s told us the stories and they rule.
Daron Gray was at the strip and did a fantastic job capturing the action from the gassers, some of the other cool iron on the strip, hot rods and cars in the pits, as well as the general scene that this race provided. We wish like hell we were there because it looks as though a good time was had by all.
