Drag Gallery: Grudge Night at Houston Motorsports Park

Charles Wickam is no stranger to the wall at Houston Motorsports Park. He’s been at the well known eighth mile track for some truly wild action over the last couple seasons. He recently dropped by the track on a Friday Grudge Night to shoot some photos and he captured a lot of good ol’ fashion Texas doorslammer racing.

There was no major wreckage to speak of, other than a guy eating it on a bike, which, if you’ve been around the strip a lot, you know happens with a fair amount of regularity. Being that this was a grudge night, racers would pick who they wanted to race against and there may or may not have been some wagering on different pairs of cars over the course of the night.

One thing you’ll notice is that a lot of cars have PT/NT on the windshield. This isn’t a glass designation, it stands for Pro Tree, No Time (shut the score boards off). You don’t want to give the potential competition an idea of how fast you are, right?

Great shots as always Charles. I’m surprised you are able to get engine shots. I’ve been to grudge races at Byron and Great Lakes where hoods slam shut when I get near cars with my camera. I once had two angry, burly gentlemen insist on seeing what I had shot, and delete shots of their car.
