Drag Gallery: Test-N-Tune Action From Byron Dragway

Drag Gallery: Test-N-Tune Action From Byron Dragway

Byron Dragway is one of the legendary drag plants in the USA. Owner/operator Ron Leek is the man that many people credit with fostering bracket racing through the early days of life, as well as the loon behind such killer events as the World Power Wheelstanding Championships, and others. BangShift photo contributor Greg Rourke stopped by on a recent afternoon to check out the action at a test and tune day.

As is usually the case at such a gathering, the field was pretty varied and had everything from a hard launching Trailblazer SS, to a wild second generation Camaro with bead lock wheels and oodles of boost being shoved through the engine. Drag Strips at all corners of the country (not sure about Alaska, yet) are open for business, and you should be marking some dates on your calendar to hang out! Supporting your local track is the only way these places will stay open. There’s big fun to be had, even on a relatively quiet test and tune day!

Thanks to Greg Rourke for the photos and special thanks to Ron Leek and track photog Rick Kurtz for giving Greg access!

Only about 30 cars showed this day, tornadoes were predicted for the afternoon. The white Trailblazer had the “scoreboards off” symbol on the glass, but based on the cars he was against I’m guessing deep in the 12’s.
