It’s hot in the heartland! And Goodguys 20th Heartland Nationals in Des Moines Iowa is just one of the reasons. Killer hot rods, customs, street machines, race cars, and even trars are on hand filling what is arguably one of the coolest fairgrounds in the country. The Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines feature restaurants, bars, miles of cruising routes, a huge campground, dirt track racing, and more. It really is awesome. We’re on hand announcing the Goodguys Autocross as usual, but snapped over 300 photos of Friday and Saturday’s car show and Autocross. BangShift sponsor Detroit Speed won the Vendor Class at the Autocross, with Kyle Tucker running 42.2 on Saturday for overall quickest time.
Chris Jacobs, driving his newly Roadster Shop re-chassised ’66 Chevelle, won the Street Machine Class and is second overall with a 42.5 second lap. Street Rod came down to the wire with Dave Smith and Eric Wise battling it out in their ’33 Fords. Ultimately Wise took home the trophy but Smith came back during fun runs and ran even quicker. Wise will take home the BFG tires, Smith gets bragging rights. Tyler Gibson, in his miniature ’47 Chevy Pickup which won the Truck Class last year, also had a great battle going with Truck Class heavy hitter Rob McGregor. Gibson came out on top with McGregor riding shotgun.

Mostly nice stuff, but the headlights on that ’34 Studebaker have got to go, and whoever built the 4X4 Mustang should be killed and eaten.
Wow! A real 72 Kingswood Estate that hasn’t been destroyed by one of those knuckle draggin’ demo derby fiends!
Yes, monster truck Mustang? Really? Lots of nice stuff otherwise though. Strangely, I really like the orange 52 Ford 4 door….
Chad, thanks for snapping some great pics of my truck and keeping the autox commentary entertaining as usual.
Tyler
Ran all day Friday and Saturday and no pix of the Blue 72 Chevelle?
