Saturday at the 2009 Holley/NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was action-packed, hot, humid, hazy, and hella cool. The car show was more massive than ever we could have imagined, and 250-mph front engine Top Fuelers did not let down the capacity crowd down.
Then there was the cacklefest, the gathering of 40 historically significant race cars on the track, some burning nitro, some burning alcohol, and some burning gasoline, all running at the same time. There are not words available to describe the amount of noise generated when all those zoomie pipes are thumping.
The car show was an awesome mix of everything from hard core traditional and rat rods, street rods, muscle cars, gassers, and anything else you could dream up. There was plenty of stunning stuff in there.
Here are two galleries of Saturday action. The first is from the car show, and with 126 photos, barely scratched the surface of the show. The second is from the drag strip, and at just over 122 photos, is a tiny glimpse of the battle done there.
