The 5th Annual 2009 Jeg’s Pacific SPORTSNationals presented by K&N on April 18-19 in Fontana, California, was hot and fast, and we’re not just talking about the weather. While the event was plagued with record high temperatures that hovered in the 90s on Sunday, it was the 40-plus-mph winds that kept the competitors on their toes, and ultimately resulted in eliminations being contested on the first 660 feet of Fontana’s ¼ mile. But in typical NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing fashion, the on-track action could not be stopped, which made for a great weekend for fans and competitors alike.
The 2009 Pacific SPORTSNationals were the second of three Jeg’s events for 2009, and give competitors NHRA National Event points at an event that highlights Sportsman Drag Racing. From 6 to 13 seconds, this event had it all, and kept us entertained with wheels-up launches, smoky burnouts, and bangin’ gears. Some of the highlights included Hollis Colleasure beating up on his son-in-law Brad Pierce for the Super Gas win, Mark Faul winning another NHRA event in Super Stock, and Brad Tait Qualifying #1 in a Bel Air Wagon!
