We were in the mood to see some neato nostalgia drag racing recently, so we gave our wife the day off, loaded up the kiddos and headed to the local strip. Luckily for us, New England Dragway was holding one of their yearly nostalgia races called Dragin’ in the 50s (yes, we know they should spell it draggin’). The event is open to stuff 1969 and older, features lots of different classes, and draws some truly awesome iron to the track.
It was hot as blazes at the track, but we got to surprise the senior Lohnes (seen below in his 9-second Nova) the day before his birthday with a visit from his biggest fans. Despite the heat it was a great day at the track and some really neat iron showed up. With our two little guys in two we couldn’t shoot a lot of on-track action but we have a gallery of 140 photos taken in the pits and the car show area.
Pay special attention to the radical T-bucket powered by a 427ci big-block Chevy. We bet Chad hates the hell out of it, but we think that it is boss! Also, the 1965 Falcon sedan delivery of “Leapin'” Larry York is a personal favorite. 347ci of small block Ford, a Doug Nash 5-speed and violent launch techniques bring this thing into the 10.80s on every crowd pleasing pass.
