(Words and photos by Tommy Lee Byrd) – As if the Hot Rod Power Tour didn’t provide enough action at the Chattanooga, Tennessee stop, the folks at Coker Tire rolled out the red carpet and invited everyone to hang out at a special After Party Cruise In at their headquarters in downtown Chattanooga. These guys went all out, with food trucks, live music, and the doors to all of the Coker facilities (including Honest Charley Speed Shop) were wide open.
The cars started pouring into the streets surrounding Coker Tire at around 5pm, and a steady flow continued for another couple of hours until there was no room. It’s hard to guess, but our estimate is in the neighborhood of 1,000 cars, and 10,000 people roaming the streets. In addition to the killer Cruise In, the crew at Honest Charley Garage unveiled their latest creation, the 2013 Street Rodder Road Tour car. This thing is crazy: it’s a ’51 Ford custom, which is chopped and channeled, and powered by a Ford EcoBoost twin turbo V6. The unveiling was a grand occasion, with spectators packing the Coker Museum to see the cover come off.
After hours fun consisted of burnouts, tricycle races in the parking lot and the obligatory nighttime photo session in front of the Honest Charley Speed Shop. Tommy Lee Byrd covered all the action, got home at 1am, returned to his office by 8am and was kind enough to send us these photos between naps. Check it out!
