Gallery: Dirt Track Insanity From Battleground Speedway!

Charles Wickam has been a busy fellow shooting awesome photos for the BangShift universe to check out. He just wrapped an awesome shoot at the ADRL event in Houston and just a week before that he was at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas snapping hundreds of pit and action photos from the high banks.

It is amazing to us that dirt track racing still exists. It is a good kind of amazing, a rebellious kind of amazing. The most basic racing surface in the world, dirt, provides some of the most awesome action in both still photos and live viewing pleasure. We’d also have to add that Battleground Speedway is the best name for a circle track ever.

These photos were taken at an event that featured three classes of racing. There’s the Limited Modifieds, which are the cars with minimal bodywork, and two stock car classes known as Pure Stock and Hobby Stock. We could spend all day breaking down the rules, but the proof is in the photo pudding.

Charles did an awesome job capturing a day in the life of a dirt track. They raced until well after midnight and the tech barn was rocking until 3AM on the night Charles took these photos. It is gritty, grassroots racing that makes the NASCAR “big show” look like a lame carnival ride.
