(Photos by Joe Grippo) – Our man Joe Grippo attended the first ever Rodders Journal Vintage Speed and Custom Revival last weekend outside of Baltimore at the famed Pimlico Race Course. The venue has long held the Preakness horse race and presented a 25 acre field to host the show portion of the weekend. Long story short, this was a magnificent event with an incredible array of cars involved. There were rat-tastic gassers, amazing hand formed pieces of hot rod artistry as you can see below, and custom cars that are just plain wonderful. Grippo shot hundreds and hundreds of photos from the show, so we’re going to parcel them out to you 100 at a time each day so you can savor each update.
What’s doubly cool is that Rocket Racing Wheels, a member of the BangShift sponsor family was also an event sponsor during this show. Their support event helped to make the event happen and that’s a great thing. Companies that support our hobby are the ones that need to be supported by us.
The Rodders Journal is a great publication with an obviously dedicated following as demonstrated by the size and scope of this show. From the coolest high end hot rod, to the toughest looking old drag strip war horse, we’re loving every one of Joe’s photos!
Thanks to Joe Grippo for the gallery!

And Grippo knocks another one out of the park. Thanks Joe.
Thanks guys! One of the best shows I have ever been to, for sure.
Nice job, wicked cars!
What’s the story on the 32 Vicky/Tudor? Is it a recent barn find?
Yeah, it surfaced a year or two ago bounced around a bit, ebay, some vintagecar dealers. It was pretty pricey then, it was discussed at length over on the hamb.
It is now owned by Hemi SS racer and hardcore Hot Rodder Bucky Hess. Caused a bit of a stir when he drove into Pimlico with open headers and steam billowing from the hood, followed by his son Travis in his A Roadster! Bucky said he has owned it for a month. Looked cool as hell driving through downtown Baltimore on Saturday night shaking the buildings….
So many great cars so tastefully done. Thanks for your efforts and sharing!
