Hot Rod Power Tour: A good hot rodder always carries his own spare.

Hot Rod Power Tour: A good hot rodder always carries his own spare.

Well, we knew it was unlikely we would make it through Hot Rod Magazine’s Power Tour 2010 without doing some kind of repair. We were hoping we were done after applying some tape to a piece of trim on the motorhome yesterday morning. We weren’t that lucky.

You see, last night at about 10pm we were trying to navigate a Denny’s parking lot so that we could eat. Denny’s didn’t make it easy on us, and we found ourselves hopping a curb with the drivers side of the trailer. Not a big deal right? Well apparently we hit it just right and pinched the tire which made it not hold air. No bueno.

But, as I often remark while rubbing my ever expanding belly, “A good hot rodder always carries his own spare.” Which makes me thank Greg and the Ridetech crew for making sure the spare for the trailer was in fact, in the trailer. Unfortunately the star lug wrench was as useless as using my kung foo grip, so we spent a fair amount of time trying to get to and then remove the 100 pound tool bag from the trailer. Did I mention all of this was in the darkest possible parking lot we could find? Of course it was.

So, after killing myself to get the bag out we got the breaker bar and corresponding socket and went to work. But how do you jack up a trailer when you have no jack? Blocks baby. We backed it up on some handy cubes, got the wheel off the ground and the swap was swift and easy. Unfortunately the incredibly level of darkness made photos and video a total loss, but we have a photo of the result for you to check out below. Also, our Long Haul Gang decal that just happened to show up on the Ridetech bus. Thanks guys, we love the long haulers. We just got cleaned up and are heading to the show now. We’ll be there in two hours. See you in Du Quoin!
