The United Black Drag Racers Association has been unofficially around since the 1980s but officially since 1994 when they organized themselves formally. Originally born in the greater St. Louis area, the organization has grown over the years and events are held at several tracks across the country. The original “Black Sunday” racers were at the currently dormant Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois (right across the river from St. Louis).
Our man Greg Rourke was on the scene at historic Byron Dragway to capture the action, and there was plenty of it! Through the day there was bracket racing, grudge racing, no time action, and the Midwest Super Stock Mafia to wow the crowds. Greg said that the place was jammed with cars and there were lots of paying spectators as well. He sent us more than 300 great photos from the pits, and the strip. Lots of wheels up action and interesting iron!

Sad. Great pictures, yeah, but anything that keeps us divided like this is just plain sad.
My understanding is that anyone can join. I also question the name, but in my opinion the spirit of the organization is correct. It’s more a group of racers than anything racial, and these guys love to race. I always wanted to shoot this race, I’ll be back next year.
Im gonna form the United White Drag Racers Association, give it 5minutes before they called it raciest and gets investigated by the government
I see red, white, yellow and blue cars too. Why is iy called black racers!?!?
Sorry dudes but your’s is just a reflextion of all what’s wrong with your side of the street…you got hate on your side too. It’s all too sad, now isn’t it.
