When BangShift photo contributor Greg Rourke told us he was available to cover the Hunnert Car Heads-Up we were excited. After all, the Hunnert Car Heads Up has become one of the coolest retro-perfect drag racing events on the planet. The fact that it is held at Great Lakes Dragaway, a place that nearly 10,000 BangShift.com readers voted as the most historically significant operating drag strip in the world is just icing on the cake! The Chrome Czars car club busts their ass to put this deal on, and they do a fantastic job.
As you’ll see in the gallery, the event’s draw is the fact that only stuff older than ’65 is allowed in, true vintage drag cars are able to run, and lots of period correct modern-built stuff hits the strip too. The Hunnert Car Heads Up is certainly not about setting low ET of the weekend, it is about pure fun, personal satisfaction about beating the shit out of your junk, and hanging out with a bunch of like minded people.
With everything from a blown, 18-second Crosley powered dragster (like 49ci people!), to a wheelstanding ’56 Chevy, this event is pure win from top to bottom. Hit the link below to see nearly 200 killer photos from the lens of Greg Rourke, a dude we were VERY envious of last weekend!
