Update: Larry Larson Wins Hot Rod Drag Week 2010 — Breaks 6-second Barrier!

Larry Larson, at the helm of his awesome twin turbo Chevy Nova, has won Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week 2010 presented by Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive. Larson made an easy 7.34 second blast to secure the title after Jeff Lutz pushed a head gasket while running 7.10 earlier in the day. He then went on to run the first six second lap in the history of the event! Larson’s 2010 Hot Rod Magazine Drag Week win was hard fought and not without the excitement of natural disasters, slippery tracks, and other hazards of the road.

The titanic six second pass was a 6.95/209mph shot down the quarter-mile at Hebron, Ohio’s National Trail Raceway. The breaking of the vaunted six second barrier may well overshadow his event win. Many assumed that the potential for a run of that magnitude was lost after Indy earlier in the week, but Larson, in typical fashion, much like he did in 2005 on the last day, went for the gusto and hit the drag racing equivalent of a two-out, ninth inning, walk-off grand slam. That was one of the larger statement runs made in any of the Hot Rod inspired drag racing events over the years. Amazing stuff!

Congrats to Larry Larson, the only guy to have 3 Hot Rod Drag Week titles in the world! He is the pilot of the “Fastest Street Car in America” and a legit, legal, six-second street car. Wow!
