(Photos by Jacob Marshall) – It is funny to see how younger muscle car enthusiasts react when they look at the machines of the 1960s and 1970s. When it came to not fearing the edge of the envelopes for styling and performance, Chrysler lead the pack and the reality is that they kind of had to. When you are number three in a three horse race, you have to do something to differentiate yourself from the pack and they did so with engines, bombastic marketing, paint colors, codes, and names, hardcore factory backed racing efforts, and basically playing the hand they needed to in order to keep their hardcore fans and enthusiast customers happy.
This collection of photos from the 2015 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals highlights a great section of cars and trucks that really define the spirit of the company during the 1960s and 1970s. Yes, the 1970s were crummy for performance but when you see the truck in here and the styling package it had on it, you’ll quickly realize that the ideals of the company had not disappeared, they were just working with what they had at the time.
It is virtually impossible to look through these cars and not want to own each and every one. Am I right?
