Nostalgia Drags Gallery: Mo-Kan Dragway’s 50th Anniversary Race – Hot Rod, Wheelstanders, and More!

(Photos by Steve Wilson) – Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri is one of the neatest old strips in the country. The local racers, fans, and track management celebrated the track’s 50th anniversary in a big way last weekend and Steve Wilson was on hand to capture the action. A cool mix of old school drag cars, exhibition vehicles like wheelstanders, and modern heavy hitters in Top Dragster and Top Sportsman put on a show for the packed house in the Illinois heat.

It is rare for any business to sustain itself for 50 years and really rare for that business to be a drag strip. Regulations, rules, crappy neighbors, a tough economy, and poor management have killed lots of strips over the years, but humble Mo-Kan endures and we’re very happy about that. This is the track that hosts the yearly H.A.M.B drags because it is still very much the same looking and feeling place that it was 50 years ago when the gates first opened.

Congrats to the racers, management, and fans of Mo-Kan. Here’s to 50 more!
