Retro Gallery: The 2009 Loring Timing Association Land Speed Meet

We’re counting down the minutes before we get to turn our faithful Ford truck north and haul ass for about eight hours to reach Limestone, Maine. That’s where the action will be this weekend at the former Loring Air Force Base as the Loring Timing Association will hold the second annual Land Speed meet on a runway that once launched huge bombers laden with nuclear weapons. There are cars and people coming from all over the country to take a crack at the 1.5-Mile acceleration zone and baby’s bum smoothness of the course.

We estimate that roughly 20 BangShift members will be on hand wither wrenching, racing, or working the course this weekend. With nearly 6,000 members that doesn’t seem like a lot but when you consider the limited number of cars allowed to participate and the remote location of the event, that is a ton!

We’ll be suitably equipped to upload photos and results LIVE from our track side perch. We’re hoping to assist with a car or two over the course of the weekend as well, so you’ll have to stay tuned for all the good dirt from the wilds of far northern Maine.

To get you ramped up for our coverage hit the link below to see a small gallery shot by BangShift.com member Caveman at the first ever event last year. We had a wedding to attend last year so we missed it. This year we locked the date in!

Tell all your land speed lovin’ pals that BangShift.com is the place to check in this weekend for all the news from Loring!
