Unhinged: McTaggart’s Top 16 From The 2015 Holley Hot Rod Reunion

Unhinged: McTaggart’s Top 16 From The 2015 Holley Hot Rod Reunion

The Holley Hot Rod Reunion is effectively my anniversary mark for BangShift.com, and is also one of the largest events that I have attended several times over. I love the mix of cars that come out to this event, the people that know thousands more about drag racing and the history behind it than I ever will, and the racing has always been exciting to watch. I still find myself very lucky to be in this position, behind the camera, out in the pits, in the car show greens, and on the starting line as the tires burn and the nitromethane fills the air. Watching the older guys swap stories, watching the younger kids hang off of the fence as gassers hang the front tires in the air at launch…events like the Hot Rod Reunion should be on your calendar at some point in time. Where else will you get to see a classic Funny Car that hasn’t been restored from it’s last-raced condition in the same location as a car show filled with hundreds of quality rides and the likes of Mike Bilina, the driver of the green 1956 Chevrolet who drives at 110% with the wheels up every time he hits the strip? Where else are you going to be able to meet “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, peruse over Holley Performance Products’ latest and greatest wares and hit a swap meet? Over the course of the last three days I’ve shot hundreds of pictures, but I had to go through and pick out some favorites from the catalog. I hope you enjoy them!

Expect to see more of this Mustang Funny Car soon.

Matte paint done right. This Chevy was stunning in any light.

Mike Bilina’s ’56 Chevy needs no introduction here. I asked about the damage from last year’s brush against the wall. Response: “It’s character!”

The stolen newspaper air scoop is an odd touch but this big Ford would simply work.

I’m really growing to like C1 Corvettes set up for Gas classes.

(no words needed.)

Which one would you pick? Notice the sky…always threatening rain…

The color combination on this Willys jumps out like you wouldn’t believe. In darker light the flames almost glow.

Rocket 350, 700R4, 3.73 rear, and a knockout paint job. This Omega was for sale, and if I could have afforded it I would have bought it on the spot. It’s that nice.

What can I say…these Chevrolets were sweet.

Pure Junk, Pure Insanity II

Yes, please. Beautiful chrome on this flatbed Chevrolet.

HRR_hotel_TH26

Not everybody was trying to repave the Holiday Inn parking lot. Some were just cruising nice and slow.

HRR_15_FRI252

Agreed.

HRR_hotel_TH65

It looked like it wanted a fight. Perfect.

Cant thank yall enough for picking “The Heckler” in the top 16! My dad and I had the pleasure of bringing this 60’s E stock drag car back to life. This was its first time out and it was an amazing weekend! This car truely had an incredible story!

    Bryan, the K Z Willys was a very nice car, my friend Bill & Kathy ( K Z )
K r a Z y brought the car up from Santa Rosa Bch, FL. Bill built the car by his self, frame, cage, sheet metal, welding, painting..all in his home shop…He wanted to have his car & not buy one from someone else..He is so talented and humble..He will get mad with me if he see’s this…But we always get over our spats…that’s what 40 yrs of Hot-Rod friends do !!! Thanks again.
